Sequence Skates : AIGA’s Hung Up Fall Gala

Thursday, November 19th, 2009 by Heidi Reinfeld

On November 12th, Sequence participated in the annual AIGA Fall Gala fundraiser, Hung Up. Every year AIGA features custom-designed objects by local designers which are then auctioned to raise money for their organization. This year the object was a skateboard deck.

We had a lot of fun with this assignment. The entire office was asked to participate, and the winner was then chosen through an internal voting process. It was a tight competition, but the “Born to Skate” board won the hearts of our sentimental designers. On one side, we laser etched the words “Born to Skate” as a wordmark, and on the other side was an ultrasound image of a baby on a skateboard. As it turns out, the SF design community also has a soft spot for sentimental creativity, as the board had more than its share of bids during the silent auction.

Watch out for our upcoming “Born to Tai Chi” and “Born to Knit” series!

As the winning bidders and happy owners of the “Born to Skate” board, my wife and I look forward to many years of ollie’s, kickflips, and admiring this latest masterpiece on our gameroom wall from the comfort of our couch!
